Lockhart Animal Shelter

HOURS OF OPERATION:

Tuesday-Friday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Saturday: 12 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Sunday and Monday: CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC*

Lockhart Animal Shelter staffers and volunteers will still be on-site even though the facility is closed to the public. These days will be used for deep cleaning and facility maintenance, along with the day-to-day care for shelter pets; including, but not limited to, feeding, watering, and exercising for dogs. The following services will also remain available even while the shelter is closed to the public:

• Pet transports
• Pet reclaims by appointment
• Working with animal rescue groups for new homes

The Lockhart Animal Shelter is located at 547 Old McMahan Road. Turn on Hwy 20 East off Hwy 183 (towards Bastrop), go exactly one mile and turn right on Old McMahan Road. The Shelter strives to find new homes for all of the animals it handles. If you are interested in adopting our dogs and/or cats, you must sign an adoption agreement, which outlines the requirements for adoption. These include providing basic care for the animal, obtaining a rabies vaccination as required by law and having the animal spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption or by the date outlined in the contract. These are requirements set forth by state statute and failure to do so is a Class C Misdemeanor. 

The animal shelter also will take in pets that the owner no longer can keep as space permits. There is a $15 owner release fee and a $5 each release fee on puppies or kittens under 3 months of age.
