Development Services Department

The Development Services Department houses two major functions, the: Planning Division & Inspections Division.
For Maps, permits, applications and other downloadable files, visit our Downloads Page.

Planning Division:

The planning division provides professional, technical, and clerical support in processing development proposals and permits, and in long-range planning activities. This includes routine zoning and subdivision administration, development ordinance updates, street addressing, annexation coordination, comprehensive plan coordination, U. S. Census support, city council redistricting coordination, and special projects. The in-house mapping/G.I.S. capability serves not only the planning functions, but also is available for data integration with other departments. The planning staff has primary responsibility for the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Zoning Board of Adjustments, the Development Review Committee, and the Historical Preservation Commission.

Our goal is to provide cordial, prompt, and accurate assistance to other City staff, the commissions/boards/council, other agencies, and general public who rely on the planning division for information or action.

You may contact David Fowler, City Planning Director, at (512) 398-3461, ext. 2510, Kevin Waller, Senior Planner at ext. 2400, or Christine Banda, Planning/GIS Technician ext. 2430 if you have any questions regarding the Planning Division.

Inspections Division:

The inspections division provides plan review, permitting, and inspection services related to construction and development. It also includes code enforcement for violations of a property maintenance code such as overgrown lots, litter, stagnant water, discarded appliances and furniture, junk vehicles, and unsecured or vacant buildings. The inspection staff has primary responsibility for the Construction Board of Appeals, and the Electrical Board of Review and Appeals.

We strive to provide cost effective construction plan review, permits, inspections, and code enforcement activities with voluntary compliance as a goal.

You may contact Andrew Devaney, Building Official, at (512) 398-3461, if you have any questions regarding the Inspections Division.
